Sulfur is part of the ultimate analysis of coal and coke. Results of the sulfur analysis are used for evaluation of coal preparation and cleaning, evaluation of potential sulfur emissions from coal and coke combustion or conversion processes, and evaluation of coal and coke quality in relation to contract specifications, as well as for scientific purposes. The competency of laboratories with respect to use of this standard can be established through reference to Practice D7448.1.1 This test method covers the determination of sulfur in samples of coal or coke by high-temperature tube furnace combustion. 1.2 When automated equipment is used the procedure can be classified as an instrumental method. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 5.1x00a0;The percent sulfur content of the ash derived from coal or coke can be calculated to sulfur trioxide content. Determination of GHG direct and indirect emissions based on a mass balance method at each process step for the steel industry. Definition of performance indicators will be included as well as rules for consolidation of processes at site level. The objective is the determination of a methodology to evaluate and compare the emission performance over time or between sites. Field test will be organized to compare mass balance methodology and stack measurements for assessment of direct emissions.
This International Standard specifies a method of de-termining the total carbon and the total hydrogen in hard coal, brown coal and lignite, and coke, by a high temperature combustion method.\nThe results include the carbon in the carbonates and the hydrogen combined in the moisture and in the water of constitution of silicates. A determination of moisture is carried out at the same time, and an ap-propriate correction is applied to the hydrogen value obtained by combustion. A determination of carbon dioxide may also be made and the total carbon value corrected for the presence of mineral carbonates.
