This European Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for the construction, safety and marking of domestic direct gas-fired tumble dryers, of types B22D and B23D, of nominal heat input not exceeding 6 kW, hereafter referred to as \"appliances\". This European Standard does not apply to: a) catalytic combustion appliances; b) appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes; c) appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere; d) appliances of the condensing type wherein the heated air and products of combustion used for the drying process are dehumidified by cooling with water or air; e) appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft. This European Standard covers type testing only.
This European Standard specifies functional requirements for the design, construction, testing, commissioning/decommissioning, operation, maintenance and, where appropriate, calibration, together with suitable documented provisions for all new gas measuring systems and any major changes of existing systems. This European Standard also specifies accuracy classes of measuring systems and thresholds applicable to these classes. Demonstration of compliance is achieved through the selection, installation and operation of appropriate measurement instruments, together with suitable documented provisions for calculations. Examples of demonstration of compliance are provided for each accuracy class; however, they are not prescriptive solutions. This European Standard is applicable for gases of the 2nd family as classified in EN 437. It is also applicable for treated non-conventional combustible gases complying with EN 437 and for which a detailed technical evaluation of the functional requirements (such as injected biomethane) is performed ensuring there are no other constituents or properties of the gases that can affect the metrological and physical integrity of the measuring systems. This European Standard can also be used as a guideline for 1st and 3rd family gases as classified in EN 437; however additional considerations should be taken with regard to the different constituents and physical characteristics of the gas family. This European Standard gives guidelines when designing, installing and operating gas meters with additional functionalities (smart gas meters). Communication protocols and interfaces for gas meters and remote reading of gas meters are outside the scope of this European Standard and are covered by the appropriate parts of EN 13757, which provide a number of protocols for meter communications. The objective of this European Standard is to achieve the safe operation of gas connection valves for use with metal hose assemblies by specifying the requirements of performance, materials and test methods. Metal hose assemblies are referred to in prEN 14800 and prEN 15070. These valves are suitable for connection to domestic appliances inside or outside a dwelling using gas at a pressure of up to and including 0,5 bar. These valves are designed for the use with movable appliances; they may also be used for the connection of fixed appliances. The term gas relates to the first, second and third families as referred to in EN 437,Table 1.
This part of BS 5440 specifies requirements for the installation of gasappliances to chimneys, chimney installation work likely to beundertaken by gas engineers and operatives working under UK gasindustry conditions and requirements for the maintenance of chimneys.It is applicable to open flue chimneys for Type B gas appliances androom-sealed chimney configurations for Type C gas appliances, each ofrated input not exceeding 70 kW net (see Note 2 and Note 3), burning1st, 2nd or 3rd family gases. This is kept in perspective by quoting some details ofBS EN 15287-1 and BS EN 15287-2.It specifies the following:? requirements for the selection of the appropriate flueing option forgas appliances in the UK;? requirements for the installation of gas appliances to newchimneys, or chimney configurations;? requirements for the installation of gas appliances to existingchimneys or chimney configurations;? requirements for the installation of appliances which carry a CEmark and for which the manufacturer’s instructions are availableto the installer;? requirements installation of appliances which do not carry a CEmark and used/second-hand appliances for which themanufacturer’s instructions are available to the installer.This part of BS 5440 is applicable to:? complete chimney and all chimney components from the applianceconnection to the discharge point into outside air;? the installation of gas appliances to existing chimneys that wereintended originally for appliances burning other fuels;? chimneys for residential park homes but not to chimneys forleisure accommodation vehicles.This part of BS 5440 is not applicable to gas-fired incinerators. Refer toBS 5871-3 for the installation of decorative fuel effect appliances.This part of BS 5440 includes compatibility of appliances installed inthe UK with new chimneys designated under BS EN 1443 and withexisting chimneys, including non-designated chimneys.
