IEC 61753-091-2:2012 contains the minimum test and measurement requirements and severities which a fibre optic circulator as specified by IEC 62077 should satisfy in order to be categorized as meeting the requirements of circulators used in controlled environments as specified in IEC 61753-1. Keywords: fibre optic circulator
This International Standard applies to circulators used in the field of fibre optics bearing all of the following features: – they are non-reciprocal optical devices, in which each port is either an optical fibre or fibre optic connector; – they are passive devices in accordance with the categorization and definition provided in IEC 62538; – they have three or more ports for directionally transmitting optical power.
This part of IEC 61300 identifies two basic measurement methods for characterizing the spectral transfer functions of DWDM devices.
IEC 62077:2010(E) applies to fibre optic circulators, which are: - non-reciprocal optical devices; - passive components; - have three or more ports for directionally transmitting optical power. This standard establishes circulator requirements and quality assessment procedures. The changes with respect to the previous edition are listed as: - having substantially increased the number of terms; - having added an informative annex for examle of filtering technologies; - having deleted quality assessment procedures.
This part of IEC 61300 presents a number of alternative methods for measuring thepolarization mode dispersion (PMD) of a passive fibre optic device under test (DUT). Thesemethods typically measure PMD using either a frequency domain or time domain approach. Inthe frequency domain, the polarization properties of the DUT are analysed. In the time domainapproach, the pulse delay or broadening is observed. This procedure will cover measurements of both broadband, and narrowband densewavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) passive fibre optic devices. Differences betweenmeasurement practices for these varied classes of passive fibre optic devices will be noted inthe text. This procedure can be applied to laboratory, factory and field measurements of PMD inpassive fibre optic devices. Limitation of the application of some methods will be noted in thetext when necessary. This procedure can be applied to a transmissive or reflective DUT. In the latter case, the DUTconnection is via a coupler or circulator, which should have a known very low PMD value.
This part of IEC 61753 contains the minimum requirements and severities which a fibre optic circulator shall satisfy in order to be categorised as meeting the requirements of circulator devices used in uncontrolled environments. The requirements cover non-connectorised single mode circulators for category U - Uncontrolled environments.
This part of IEC 61753 contains the minimum test and measurement requirements andseverities which a fibre optic circulator should satisfy in order to be categorized as meeting therequirements of circulator devices used in outside plant environments. The requirements covernon-connectorized single-mode circulators for caterogy O used in an uncontrolled environmentand a sequential test.
