This European standard specifies mechanical safety requirements and testing for all types of fully erected domestic adult beds including all component elements such as bed frame , bed base mattress and mattress pads (when they form a unit with the mattress). It does not apply to foldaway beds , bunk beds , children cots and adjustable beds for disabled persons where separate standards exit , as well as waterbeds and air beds . Further tests may be applicable for test units that are multi purposes , e.g. convertible sofa beds and power driven system . Assessment for ageing and degradation are not included .

The standard specifies a method for determination of essential dimensions of all types of matresses, bed frames, divans and bed bases.
This European Standard specifies safety requirements and test methods for all types of fully erected domestic adult beds including all component elements such as bed frame, bed base, mattress and mattress pads (when they form a unit with the mattress). This British Standard specifies requirements for the resistance toignition of mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases when testedin accordance with BS EN 597-1, BS EN 597-2 and BS 6807 includingthose used in areas vulnerable to arson. It does not apply to mattressprotectors. The levels of ignition resistance have been set after carefulconsideration of the fire risk of the particular end-use environmentinvolved. These levels do not necessarily reflect the behaviour of themattress, mattress pad, divan or bed base in a fully developed fire.NOTE Guidance on the applicability of hazard categories to particularpremises is given in the notes to Table 1.
This British Standard specifies safety requirements and methods of test for children's bedguards for domestic use.It applies to bedguards intended for use with beds having a maximum height of 600 mm and a minimum internal length of 1400 mm.These bedguards, when used in conjunction with a bed/mattress combination, are intended to prevent children aged between 18 months and 5 years from falling out of bed. This standard is not applicable to bedguards designed for adult use, nor to bedguards which are an integral part of a bed, i.e. a permanent fixture not intended to be detached.
