1.1 These requirements cover the performance during fire tests of pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units intended for the protection of commercial cooking equipment for restaurants, cafeterias and other similar venues. For installation requirements, see the following documents: NFPA 17, Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems; NFPA 96, Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations; and NFPA 17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems. Note that local authorities having jurisdiction should be consulted prior to installation. 1.2 Pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units, agents, or both are required to comply also with the requirements for construction and performance as applicable to specific types, designs, sizes, and arrangements; and all such additional requirements which apply are not within the scope of these requirements for fire tests. This new edition also includes the following revisions and clarifications: 1. Revision of Title and Scope, 2. Cooking Areas Protected With Multiple Nozzles, 3. Drip Pans For Indicated Appliances, 4. Fabricated Appliances/Commercially Available Unit, 5. Appliances with Faster Cooling Rates than 5?F per Minute, 6. Clarify Current Test Procedures. Per comments received, the proposed addition of Installation Instructions was not incorporated in this edition.
1.1 These requirements cover rating, and performance during fire tests, of fire extinguishers intended for use in attacking Class A, B, C, D, and K fires as defined herein. These requirements also cover performance during fire tests of fire extinguishing agents for application on Class D fires. The ultimate rating of an extinguisher or the prescribed use of an extinguisher or fire extinguishing agent is based on its fire-extinguishing potential as determined by fire tests and presupposes installation and use in accordance in the United States with the Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, NFPA 10, and with the National Fire Code of Canada. 1.2 Fire extinguishers, fire extinguishing agents, or both shall also comply with the requirements for construction and performance as applicable to specific types, designs, sizes, and arrangements. Such additional requirements are not within the scope of these requirements.
OUTLINE OF INVESTIGATION FOR FIRE TESTING OF SPRINKLERS AND WATER SPRAY NOZZLES FOR PROTECTION OF DEEP FAT FRYERS Issue Number: 1
This standard added DIN 18851:2003-06 at temperature requirements of tangible surfaces and hygiene.
This standard contains requirement for measuring the energy consumption of commercial used deep fat fryers. This standard also contains a method for the identification of the latent heat. Against DIN 18873-3:2011-05 requirements for the measuring of the preheating cycle, the determination of the latent heat and protocols for the measurement data were revised.
This standard specify DIN EN 203-1 about requirements and testing at gas fired brat pans and pa塴la.
This standard specifies the characteristics, performance requirements and test methods for portable fireextinguishers.Reference to the suitability of an extinguisher for use on gaseous fires (class C fires) are at the manufacturer’sdiscretion, but are applied only to powder type extinguishers which have gained a class B or class A and class Brating.Suitability of extinguishers for use on class D fires (fires involving flammable metals) is outside the scope of thisstandard in respect of test fires. However, extinguishers claiming class D suitability are covered in all other respectsby the requirements in this standard for powder extinguishers.!It is considered hazardous for powder and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers to be used on Class F fires. Forthis reason powder and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are excluded for conformance with regard to Class F inthis European Standard.\"NOTE The extinction of a metal fire presents a situation so specific (in terms of the metal itself, its form, the configuration ofthe fire etc.) that it is not possible to define a representative standard fire for the purposes of testing. The efficiency ofextinguishers on class D fires needs to be established on a case by case basis.
To be read in conjunction with BS EN 203-1
This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This International Standard deals with the safety of electric portable appliances for householdpurposes that have a cooking function such as baking, roasting and grilling, their ratedvoltage being not more than 250 V.
This standard prescribes the requirements for stainless steel deep fat fryer, single and double pan, electrically operated for large catering establishments, for example, hospitals, hotels, industrial canteens and clubs, etc.
